OUR STORY

Meet Blake and Amanda

Welcome to the heart of MeetMeAtTheSquare.com.

For us, square dancing is more than just a hobby or an activity. It is where our community lives, where lifelong friendships are made, and where we find our greatest joy. We created this platform to share our passion with you and to keep this incredible tradition of Modern Western Square Dance thriving for generations to come.

How It All Began:

Our journey into the world of square dancing started in January 2023 with a simple step on to the dance floor, and we were instantly hooked. We fell in love, not with just the music and the movement, but with the unique warmth of the square dance community. There is nothing quite like the feeling of eight people working together, laughing through the learning process, and celebrating every successful call. We officially graduated as Mainstream level dancers on June 10, 2023.

We didn't waste any time diving into the broader community. Just 11 days after graduation, we traveled to Mobile, Alabama to attend our very first National Square Dance Convention. Seeing thousands of dancers sharing the same floor cemented our desire to make square dancing a permanent part of our lives.

As we kept moving forward, we attended a few Plus Workshops in 2024 to sharpen our skills. We truly fell in love with the depth of the Plus level in February 2025, while attending the Red River Special Plus Weekend in Ardmore, Oklahoma. We left that weekend officially Plus level dancers.

Finding Our Voice: Our Calling Journey

Early on in our dancing days, Blake showed a deep interest in learning the art of calling, and Amanda always encouraged him to pursue it.

That opportunity arrived in February 2025 when local Arkansas caller Phil Moorehouse, the very mentor that originally taught us how to square dance, organized the Arkansas Callers School. The workshop was open to everyone, from curious beginners to seasoned veterans looking to sharpen their skills.

Amanda encouraged Blake to attend, but as she thought about it, she realized this might be something she could do, too! We both stepped into that first caller's class together. Almost immediately, Amanda knew she had found her calling alongside Blake. The more we learned about the structure, timing, and mechanics of the trade, the deeper we fell in love with the art of calling.

We proudly graduated from the Arkansas Callers School on May 18, 2025.

Continuing Our Education:

Eager to keep refining our craft, we continued our education on a national level by attending and graduating the prestigious GSI Callers School in Shreveport, Louisiana on June 25, 2025.

Stepping Up: Becoming Club Callers

Once we graduated from the Arkansas Callers School, Phil Moorehouse began scheduling monthly dances specifically to give us new callers more microphone time. The central Arkansas dance community turned out in full force to support us, including a wonderful group from the Levi's and Lace Square Dance Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

At the time, Levi's and Lace was utilizing a fill-in caller for their events. We started regularly attending their club dances, and the club was incredibly generous in letting us step up and call a dance "tip" each time we visited.

The connection was instant. Soon after, club presidents Ted and Phyllis Keeney approached Amanda to ask if we would be willing to call a full dance for them. Amanda quickly agreed! On July 15, 2025, we called our very first full dance. We fell in love with the dancers and the atmosphere, a milestone that paved the way for us to proudly become their club callers. We called our first dance as the official club callers for Levi's and Lace Square Dance Club on September 26, 2025.

Joining The Three Amigos:

In December 2025, we were incredibly honored to be invited into the Three Amigos Square Dance Group, joining forces with callers Phil Moorehouse and Nelda Eaton, and their clubs. Our first Three Amigos Dance was held on January 4, 2026.

A special Three Amigos Dance happens twice a year. During this dance, the four of us team up together, alternating between calling together and calling our own tip. To find out when the next Three Amigos Dance is, click here.

Expanding Our Horizons in Waco:

Our thirst for learning didn't stop there. In 2026, we traveled to Waco, Texas to attend the GSI Caller's School held during the landmark 75th National Square Dance Convention. Graduating from the school was an incredible milestone that allowed us to broaden our knowledge, refine our craft among the nation's best, and bring fresh energy and advanced skills back to our dancers.

Celebrating 1 Year With Levi's & Lace!

We recently hit a major milestone on our calling journey! We just celebrated our one-year anniversary as the club callers for Levi's & Lace Square Dance Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Looking back on this past year fills our hearts with so much gratitude. Square dancing has always been about more than just matching the choreography-it is about connection, shared smiles, and the incredible family we build together on the dance floor. The dancers at Levi's & Lace welcomed us with open arms, and getting to keep this beautiful tradition alive week after week has been one of our greatst blessings.

We want to thank everyone who stepped into a square, braved a new line dance, and shared a laugh with us this past year. Here's to many more tips, tons of laughter, and endless fun on the dance floor!

The bakery put Amber on the cake instead of Amanda. We had had alot of good laughs about it.
